Ich wollte noch ein paar Tips bezüglich asiatischem Kino loswerden, die ich beide noch nicht kenne, aber sehr interessant finde.

The Face of another (imdb 8,2/10)

Bearing traces of both Frankenstein and the 1959 Georges Franju horror classic Eyes without a Face, the Japanese The Face of Another is a disturbing Japanese drama featuring Tatsuya Nakadai. His face horribly disfigured in an accident, Nakadai, a wealthy industrialist, commissions a special mask from a renowned plastic surgeon. Nakadai's wife fails to recognize her husband and makes advances to him, which effectively destroys their relationship. Driven insane, Nakadai turns to murder to compensate for the loss of his identity. The melodramatic elements of the film are neatly blended with moments of erotica and generous doses of existential philosophy. The Face of Another is another thought-provoking "documentary fantasy" from the director of the cult classic Woman in the Dunes. (allmovie)

This is so excellent in every way. It is not a sci-fi movie, but in feel it sometimes comes close to. The images are quite surreal at times, the music is out of this world and some of the sets are not to be found in real life.

The editing is masterfully done, switching between main story and a parallel story about a girl with a similar problem, as well as switching between hand-held camera (not too shaky though), still pictures and still standing camera. The pictures of Segawa Hiroshi fits 35mm nicely, sometimes manipulating the background like I haven't seen before for example when the psychiatrist and Mr. Okayama is talking at the club and the crowd behind get 'invisible' by lighting.

Kyou Machiko did a terrific job in Ozu's 'Ukigusa' and likewise here. Too bad we don't see that much of her. Nakudai Tatsuya plays well as the mask. I don't know exactly what was special effects and not, but it was hard to tell. (imdb)

Kuroneko (imdb 7,6/10)

Shindo's Kuroneko is an absolute classic of the genre. The film is full of imagery an atmosphere that will haunt the viewer forever. The plot is basically about the revenge of two women who are raped by samurai warriors and then killed.They come back from the grave as cat vampire ghosts who suck the blood of samurai warriors.The parts with the vampires floating through the air are awesome and when they climb trees like cats are very memorable also. One of my favorite moments is when a warrior is walking through the woods and notices something on the back of his horse while he is pulling it.(I don't want to give it away). There are so many things I could say about the film but the bottom line is if you are a vampire or horror movie fan(especially old school) this film is a MUST! You may have to search around for a copy of the film because it is extremely rare but it would be worth the effort. TRUST ME! You will wonder how you ever lived without seeing it! Nee, hab' ich nicht.

La Chinoise ist halt ein sehr politischer Film. Wenn Du vor Worten wie Bourgeoisie, Marxismus oder Leninismus nicht zurückschreckst, sollte er Dir gefallen. Das reißerische Cover der DVD wird mit Sicherheit den ein oder anderen blutdürstigen Börsenbesucher zu einem Fehlkauf veranlasst haben. *ganz fieß ins fäustchen lach*

Ups, ich fürchte schon ich habs ja eher mit Bohéme, Dekadenz, Huysmans und Thomas Mann Aber man sollte ja über seinen Tellerrand hinausschauen, zumal ich fürs Studium sicherlich nicht darumkommen werde, mich zumindest oberflächlich über den Marxismus zu informieren. Ist er denn filmisch irgendwie auffällig? (soll heißen eher expressiv, antinaturalistisch, wild, verspielt oder eher das Gegenteil bzw. was in der Mitte )

Zurück zur Exploitation:

Im Kino kommt bei uns demnächst "Das Geheimnis der Todesinsel" über pflanzliche Vampire aus den fröhlichen 60ern. Mit Urgestein Cameron Mitchell. Kennt den jemand?

Die würde ich ja fast so unterschreiben. Allerdings ist mir die Bewertung mit 8/10 Punkten etwas zu hoch.

Jupp das klärt die Frage. Sieht vordergründig erstmal nicht nach einem Muß-see aus.
